IWTMA has short-listed five overseas firm for pilot wind energy project in TN

The Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) is planning to run a pilot project on wind energy to demonstrate that wind energy can be forecastable with a certain level of accuracy — of around 60-70 per cent. The association is planning to run the project, expected to commence by September 2009, for one full wind season and it has shortlisted companies Spain-based 3TIER, UK-based Garrad Hassan, US-based AWS Truewind and Denmark-based Risoe. The objective is to have accurate prediction about wind power generation, so as to have a decision mechanism to switch from other power generation like nuclear power and coal fired thermal power.

ITPI brings new technology for efficient wind power generation

IT Power India Pvt Ltd, Indian arm of UK based IT Power is bringing its technology for wind assessment, micro-siting for efficient production of wind power. It will use super-computers, satellite sensing and 30-year weather data to accurately place wind turbines in terms of height, placement etc., to deliver 10-15% more power than by conventional methods. With this technology, the company plans to put up 250 MW farms in the states of Karnataka and TN. IT Power has also tied up with 3-Tier, an energy efficiency company providing data to study long term viability of wind resources. Currently, 3-Tier’s technology had been used in Kerala.
