Neyveli Lignite Corp to set up a 51 MW wind power project in Kaluneerkulam in Thirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. The company has awarded the contract to Leitner Shriram to develop, install and maintain the wind power project. The scope of work also includes designing, manufacturing, supplying, erecting, testing, commissioning and synchronising with grid. The project cost is estimated at Rs. 3460 million.
Madurai Kamaraj University, which is situated on Nagamalai hills is planning to utilize the wind resource and is planning to set up a wind power plant. The company is in talks with agencies to set up the project.
Sri Kumarswamy Mineral Exports Pvt Ltd is setting up a 21.75 MW wind power project in Dindigul and Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. The company has appointed Suzlon to set up the project and it involves setting up of Suzlon S66 -1.25 MW and S88 2.1 MW wind turbines. The project is likely to go operational by April 2014.
GAIL India Ltd had awarded the contract to Gamesa Wind Turbine to set up 25 MW wind power generation project in Palani Hills in Tamil Nadu. The contract is worth of Rs. 1500 million. Gamesa will install 29 machines of 850 kw. Gamesa, the Spanish manufacturer of wind turbine had entered Indian operations in 2010 and has started selling upto 2 MW capacity wind turbines.
