State governments revisiting renewable energy tariff to attract investments

Though there exists large renewable energy potentials, private sector is not keen as selling the same to grid is not economical. So to overcome this, many states are revising the purchase tariff of renewable energy. TN government has announced a hike in purchase rate from Rs. 2.90 to Rs.3.40 for wind power, similarly Gujarat govt. too increased wind power tariff from Rs.3.37 to Rs.3.50, MP govt. from Rs.3.97 to Rs.4.03. Central Electricity Regulatory Commission is currently looking at options to standardize this tariff across all states. It is also considering to make it mandatory to produce a percentage of power from renewable energy sources.

Jharkhand keen to tap wind power potential

Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (JREDA) has commissioned last year Suzlon to conduct a survey to identify wind energy potential sites. The preliminary results have shown some area in Giridih and Latehar districts. It is awaiting for the final report to invite bids for setting up setting up wind power projects on commercial basis.
