India slips to 5th place in wind power generation

As per statistics available with global wind energy council, China has added 6300 MW to gain 4th place in total wind power generation capacity in the world. China with a larger coastline has tremendous wind energy potential and Chinese government has announced aggressive policies to grow the sector. Its objective is generate 50 GW by 2015 against estimated potential of 1300 GW. US, Germany and Spain are currently leads the table with 25170 MW, 23903 MW and 16754 MW respectively.



India’s wind power generation capacity to reach 14000 MW by 2012

India’s current wind power capacity stands at 9645 MW and there are several projects in the pipeline. Wind turbine manufacturers now plans to bring new technology to upgrade existing installations. The older ones will also be retrofitted to add more capacity. Over 216 locations had been identified in various states.
