National Offshore Wind Energy Authority (NOWA) to assess potential
India is planning to harness the potential in offshore wind power generation. Compared to on-shore, offshore installation have limited land block leasing issues as it has deal with single government agency, evacuation can be well-planned and other minor conveniences. However, clearance for projects will involve -Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Coast Guard etc and a single window clearance is mooted.
Indian government is planning to constitute a regulatory agency National Offshore Wind Energy Authority (NOWA) to assess the wind power potential. Some measures are being considered to incentivize offshore installations: - a tax holiday of 10 years, free access to coastal blocks for a specified period, assistance in technical know-how etc., Currently, the estimated potential of off-shore wind power generation is 100,000 MW.
