Gujarat Wind Power Projects

Samana in Gujarat get the spotlight of wind power in the country

Major companies like China Light Power (CLP) through its subsidiary CLP India and Tata Power have plans to invest Rs.8.15 billion in Samana in Rajkot district of Gujarat. CLP India is planning to set up 126 wind turbines to generate 100.8 MW and Tata Power to put up wind projects to generate 50 MW of power. It is estimated that Samana has wind power generation potential of 360 MW and can have around 450 wind turbines. To facilitate these projects, a high tension power transmission grid and a sub-station at Sadodar has been installed. Both the projects are being executed by Enercon India.



ONGC commissions 51 MW wind power project in Gujarat

 ONGC, one of the first oil sector govt utility to venture into wind power has completed its first 51 MW wind power plant at Motisindholi in Kutch district of Gujarat. The wind farm has 34 x 1.5 MW turbine was designed and constructed by Suzlon. Now, the plant will provide captive power to Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Vadodara and Ankleshwar.



Western Railways to set up wind power project in Gujarat

Western Railways is planning to set up a 10.5 MW (7 x 1.5 MW turbines) wind power project in Saurashtra region of Gujarat. The project will entail an investment of Rs.700 million and the plant will become operational by 2010. Railways are also considering to scale up to 100 MW and are considering other locations in the same zone. For Railways, it is cheaper to produce wind power as they come at a cost of Rs.3.50 compared to their purchase from electricity utilities at Rs.5.5. Now, they would be paying a wheeling charge to get these power from grids.
