GERC raises wind power tariff to Rs.3.56 per unit

In a move to promote green power, Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission has raised the purchase price of wind power from Rs.3.37 per unit to Rs.3.56 per unit. It had also raised the price of solar power tariff to Rs.15/- per unit. The wind power tariff will be in effect for 25 years and will apply to wind power projects that are commissioned during 3 years from 11th August 2009.Indian Energy to set up 49.5 MW wind farm in Tamil Nadu

Indian Energy, had signed up with ReGen Powertech Pvt Ltd to set up 49.5 MW wind farm in Theni in Tamil Nadu with an investment of 120 million pounds. The project will be commissioned in two phases. In the first phase, ReGen will commission 22 turbines of 1.5 MW capacity totally 16.5 MW. Land for the project had been secured and construction will start by end December 2009. Wind Turbine prices have come down recently due to a variety of reasons. The first being the technology for wind turbine have been optimized, with growth in wind power sector lead to mass production resulting in economies of scale. Further, raw materials like steel have also gone down after 2008 and easing of finance has helped a lot. Now wind turbine are priced lower around 18% from Rs.535 million to Rs.500 million now. Wind turbine costs form 70-80% of wind power project costs. With advanced technology, now wind masts are higher and generate more electricity. So a new wind map may discover more potential sites.More Articles...
