Offshore wind power generation has high potential in India

Global majors like Siemens, Areva and GE are interested to venture into offshore wind power generation which has large advantages. A long coastline closer to consumption cities, cheap labour and availability of raw materials, absence of land ownership issues make offshore wind power projects attractive. Sensing this potential Suzlon has acquired RE Power who has expertise in offshore wind power. In offshore generation, a large part of sea will be offered to developer who can build a minimum of 200-400 MW of wind power units.
Siemens to set up a wind turbine facility at Dahej

Siemens is investing Rs. 5000 million to set up a wind turbine manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The company has approached Gujarat government for 100 acres of land at Dahej. It will manufacture 1.5 MW turbines and the total project cost is estimated at Rs. 16000 million. It is also in talks with Tamil Nadu government for setting up the project there.
CLP Power commissions 99 MW wind power plant in Theni in TN

CLP Power India Pvt Ltd has commissined its wind power generation unit in Theni in Tamil Nadu. Vestas Wind Technology has supplied the wind power turbines. With this the company’s capacity of wind power has gone up to 446 MW. The unit will sell its power to TNEB and has signed a 20 year power purchase agreement.
